David
Woo is the winner of the 3rd annual A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize.
His first-book manuscript, The Eclipses, was selected
from over 700 entries by judge Michael S. Harper. David Woo was
born and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of immigrants from
China. He attended Harvard College, Stanford University as a Wallace
Stegner Fellow in Poetry, and Yale University. His first
poem appeared in the New Yorker in 1990, followed by
eight subsequent New Yorker appearances and a reading
in the New Yorker Literary Festival. He lived in
China for four years, working as an English teacher at Chinese
Universities and as the Beijing coordinator for Volunteers in
Asia, a not-for-profit organization based in California. He lives
in Scottsdale, Arizona.
