Rochester, New York—BOA Editions, Ltd. is pleased to announce that Nathan Dixon of Durham, North Carolina is the winner of the thirteenth annual BOA Short Fiction Prize for his collection Radical Red. BOA Publisher and Executive Director Peter Conners selected the winning manuscript.

“Nathan Dixon’s Radical Red is so accomplished and fully formed, it’s hard to believe it’s his debut," Conners said of the winning manuscript. "His stories slip effortlessly back and forth through time and space, challenging us with provocative scenarios while commanding our complete attention until each tale is told. The end result is a collection of overlapping stories that delight, confound, and, ultimately, introduce an important new voice in American fiction.”

Dixon will receive a $1,000 honorarium and book publication by BOA Editions, Ltd. within the American Reader Series in spring 2025.

In addition to the winning manuscript, Conners selected three runners-up from the pool of 266 submissions:

Tidal Basin: Linked Stories by Gretchen Comba

Once More Before It’s Too Late by Patrick Dacey

Starvation, Class Struggle, Etc. by John Tait

Nathan Dixon received his PhD in English literature and creative writing from the University of Georgia.  His creative work has appeared in The Georgia Review, Fence, Tin House, Carolina Quarterly, Redivider, The Cincinnati Review, and elsewhere. His critical/academic work has appeared in MELUS Journal, 3:AM Magazine, Transmotion, and Renaissance Papers. He lives in Durham, NC, and teaches at North Carolina Central University.
