Have you ever wondered about the staff members that keep BOA running? Well, wonder no more! We’ve created a short interview series so you can get to know the BOA staff. This series is also available on the BOA blog! First up, we have Peter Conners (He/Him), BOA’s Executive Director & Publisher.
BOA: Hi Peter! What’s your role at BOA?
Peter: As Publisher and Executive Director, I lead BOA, overseeing, advising on, and ultimately being responsible for all aspects of operations, with the goal of supporting and forwarding our literary mission. I keep my eyes open for new opportunities, stay knowledgeable about all aspects of nonprofit and publishing operations, and work closely with our staff members, as well as our local Board of Directors, and our National Advisory Committee.
BOA: How long have you been working at BOA Editions?
Peter: 17 years!
BOA: What is your favorite part about working for the press?
Peter: Knowing that we've helped authors realize their literary dreams by bringing their writing to readers who will treasure it.
BOA: What makes our press unique?
Peter: Forty-five years into our existence, we still proudly execute our mission with fierce integrity and passion.
BOA: What's one thing you love about BOA’s home city of Rochester?
Peter: Rochester is a phenomenal music town. The number of concerts and festivals, especially in spring and summer, is amazing.
BOA: What's a fun fact about yourself and/or a hobby that you enjoy?
Peter: I've been playing guitar for 30 years. I'm still far from an expert, but it is joyous meditation to just pick it up and play.
BOA: Are you a writer? If so, what genre(s) do you write?
Peter: Yes, I am a poet and writer. I've published books of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. I adore words, language, story, and writing in all its forms. My next poetry collection is forthcoming from White Pine Press in Spring 2022.
BOA: Anything else you’d like to share?
Peter: I am a proud father and I also wrangle three dogs and a cat!
