We are very happy to announce that BOA is adding two new staff members to our team! Please join us in welcoming Kathryn Bratt-Pfotenhauer, our new Director of Development & Publicity, and Justine Alfano, our new Director of Production.
Kathryn and Justine were originally part of the BOA intern crew before assuming their new roles. As we welcome them, we say goodbye and send our thanks to Genevieve Hartman, our former Director of Development & Publicity, and Michelle Dashevsky, our former Director of Production, for their work to advance BOA's mission over the past few years.
Kathryn Bratt-Pfotenhauer (they/she) is the author of the poetry collection Bad Animal (Riot in Your Throat, July 2023) and the chapbook Small Geometries (Ethel, April 2023.) A student in the MFA program at Syracuse University, Kathryn is the current co-Editor in Chief of Salt Hill Journal and a former intern at Copper Canyon Press and BOA Editions. Kathryn's duties will include all things publicity and marketing related, as well as grant writing. They are very excited to be helping shepherd exciting new works of poetry and fiction into the world at BOA.
Of their new role, they say: "It's long been a goal of mine to work where I can advocate on behalf of authors and help their work achieve its due recognition, so I couldn't be more pleased about joining the BOA team, where I know that collaborative spirit is prized. Being able to be a part of getting new and exciting works of poetry and fiction out there into the world is incredibly thrilling to me, and I can't wait to get started."
Justine Alfano (she/her) is a creative writing student at Monroe Community College in Rochester NY, with plans to further her degree at SUNY Brockport. She hopes to one day become a graphic novelist.
Of her new role, Justine says: "I'm so excited to start this new chapter at BOA, surrounded by the incredible talent and wisdom of our authors."
Publisher & Executive Director Peter Conners adds, "As volunteer interns, both Kathryn and Justine distinguished themselves as smart, hardworking, team players. I am thrilled to welcome them to BOA as official staff members and look forward to the fresh ideas and enthusiasm they bring with them. I also want to thank Gena Hartman and Michelle Dashevsky for their contributions to BOA and wish them best of luck in all of their future endeavors.”
Congratulations, Kathryn and Justine, and welcome to the BOA family!
