Christopher Kennedy Fights to the Death
[caption id="attachment_418" align="alignleft" width="199" caption="Christopher Kennedy. BOA poet."][/caption] BOA's own poetry warrior Christopher Kennedy (Encouragement for a Man Falling to His Death) was just featured - and singled out for high praise - in a New Yorker article about Opium magazine's tongue-in-cheek "Literary Death Match." Christopher brought his A-game to a recent Death Match event at the Bowery Poetry Club as Meredith Blake notes in her article: "My personal favorite was the extremely droll Kennedy, who shared from his collection of morbidly witty poems, Encouragement for a Man Falling to his Death. In one, a man coats his head in...

Specifically, his BOA ebook! "Welcome to the first part of an ongoing series on eBookNewser called "The Making of An eBook," in which the blog will follow the process a small publisher goes through to turn a manuscript into an eBook. Blogalicious on Woloch's "Blazon"
[caption id="attachment_387" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Cecilia Woloch. BOA poet."][/caption] Diane Lockward of Blogalicious does a feature called "The Poet on the Poem" in which she features one poem and then interviews the author about it. Currently, she's featuring the poem "Blazon" from Cecilia Woloch's newest collection, Carpathia. It's always fascinating to hear a poet describe how much time, energy, and consideration goes into a poem, particularly when you have a poet (like Cecilia) who is experienced at discussing her work and teaching poetry. Here's Diane's introduction to the feature: "I'm delighted to have Cecilia Woloch for this second The Poet on...

Open Letter in the NY Times
[caption id="attachment_344" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Chad Post, publisher of Open Letter Books"][/caption] On December 25th, the New York Times ran an outstanding article on the translation publisher Open Letter Books (how's that for Christmas present?!). Here at BOA, we take pride in our fellow small publishers' successes: we're all in the trenches together, working to bring great literature into the larger cultural discussion. But we took particular pride in this article because Open Letter Books is located right here in Rochester, NY! Here's a little sample from the article: ROCHESTER — The publishing industry is in a tailspin; translated works account...
