Barton Sutter is the only author to win the Minnesota Book Award in three different categories: poetry for The Book of Names: New and Selected Poems (BOA, 1993); fiction for My Father’s War and Other Stories (Viking Adult, 1991); and creative non-fiction for Cold Comfort: Life at the Top of the Map (University of Minnesota Press, 1998). Sutter has written for public radio and regularly performs as one half of The Sutter Brothers. In 2011 Barton Sutter retired from teaching at the University of Wisconsin, Superior and currently lives in Duluth with his wife Dorothea Diver, on a hillside overlooking Lake Superior.
