The winner of the 1991 Romanian Academy Prize, Romania's highest literary honor, Daniela Crăsnaru has published more than ten books of poetry including Sea-Level Zero (BOA, 1999) translated by Adam Sorkin. One of the most important contemporary poets in Romania, her work has been translated into more than 15 languages. In 1991 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Romanian Academy where she is now deputy director. She has long been a force in Romanian politics as a member of the Romanian parliament, and is well known for her defiance of the Ceausescu dictatorship.
