Francisca Aguirre began publishing later in life. Her poetry collection, Ithaca(BOA, 2004), was translated from the Spanish by Ana Osan. The original Spanish publication earned Ithaca the 1971 Leopoldo Panero Poetry award. Aguierre has garnered many awards, including the prestigious Esquio Award, and in 2011 she won the National Prize in Poetry for her Historia de un anatomía (Hiperión, 2010). She lives in Spain with poet Felix Grande, a member of the second generation of post-civil war poets.
