As we get ready to wrap-up National Poetry Month, BOA is excited to announce that renowned poet Aimee Nezhukumatathil will judge the 20th annual A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize, which will open for submissions on August 1!
Aimee Nezhukumatathil is the author of four books of poetry, most recently, Oceanic (Copper Canyon Press), winner of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Award. Other awards for her writing include the Pushcart Prize, fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Mississippi Arts Council, and The MacDowell Colony. Her writing appears in Poetry, The New York Times Magazine, ESPN, Tin House, and in two editions of the Best American Poetry anthologies. Her book of illustrated nature essays, World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments is forthcoming this summer from Milkweed Editions. She serves as poetry faculty for Kundiman, the Writing Workshops in Greece, and is professor of English and Creative Writing in the University of Mississippi’s MFA program.
Named in honor of the late founder of BOA Editions, the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize is an annual contest to identify, celebrate, and publish a first book by a poet of unique literary talent. The winner of the 19th annual prize will receive a $1,000 honorarium and book publication by BOA Editions, Ltd., in spring 2021 as part of the A. Poulin, Jr. New Poets of America Series. Richard Blanco will select the winner (to be announced in the spring of 2020) and will write a foreword to introduce the prize-winning collection.
Any poet who has not previously published a full-length collection of poetry is eligible to submit their first book manuscript for the Poulin Prize.
