Naomi Shihab Nye is in Helsinki, Finland this week for the eighth annual Runokuu (Poetry Moon) Festival (August 23-29), Helsinki's only literature festival. With Runokuu calling her an "an awarded Palestinian-American poet whose poetry radiates warmth, humanity and humor," Nye will perform a reading on August 26 during the festival's "Night of the Living Poets" event.
The "relationship between word and image" is the emphasis of this year's Runokuu, where there will be more than thirty events including a session on "rime bic" [rhyme and beat], and "Exhibition Alive," a literary tour that connects poets to The Finnish Museum of Photography.
Nye is the author of BOA books Transfer (2011), You & Yours (2005), Fuel (1998), and Red Suitcase (1994).
The Runokuu festival is organized by Helsinki City Library and Nuoren Voiman Liitto together with over 30 partners.
Go, Naomi Shihab Nye!
