Danielle Cadena Deulen Wins 2024 Lambda Literary Award for Outstanding Bisexual Poetry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 12, 2024

ROCHESTER, NY – BOA Editions is thrilled to announce that Danielle Cadena Deulen‘s poetry collection, Desire Museum, has won the 2024 Lambda Literary Award (Lammy) for Outstanding Bisexual Poetry. This prestigious accolade was awarded during the 36th Annual Lambda Literary Awards ceremony held on June 11, 2024, at Sony Hall.

In her acceptance speech, Deulen expressed her excitement and gratitude: “I am wildly excited right now… Thank you so much to Lambda for honoring me with this award at this amazing celebration. You are all beautiful. A huge thank you to the other finalists for their beautiful and moving work. It is an honor to have my name next to yours. This is my third poetry collection and it was so personal I thought nobody would even want to publish it. So thank you for proving my inner critic wrong.”

Desire Museum is a compelling exploration of unfulfilled longing and lost time. Through four intricately crafted sections, Deulen addresses themes such as lost love and friendship, climate crisis, lesbian relationships, and the imprisonment of children at the United States-Mexico border. Her poems delve into the pleasures and pitfalls of sex, the anxieties of motherhood, and the impacts of interpersonal, sociopolitical, and environmental trauma on women’s lives. Deulen seamlessly weaves memories into dreamscapes and blurs the human and natural worlds. With love, wonder, grief, and awe, Desire Museum shows us that to live alongside desire is to refuse to be contained: “I refuse meaning [ ] the first sunrise reiterates the last.”
