As I searched the wide web many months ago for publishers offering internships near me, I discovered Boa Editions, a nonprofit publisher of poetry and literature currently celebrating fifty years since its founding. Boa Editions quickly rose to the top of my list of places I wanted to apply to because of their commitment to encouraging and championing vital voices in the broader literary scene.
Today, one very hot summer later, I close out this chapter of my life as one of Boa’s Summer 2026 Interns and turn the page towards my future. As an upcoming Spring 2027 graduate majoring in English at SUNY Geneseo, my time with Boa has shaped me into a better reader, editor, and graphic designer. This summer, with my fellow intern Elena, as well as Peter, Justine, Callie, and, of course, the office pups Lilou and Figgy, I was able to figuratively dip my toes into the behind-the-scenes of the publishing world. I worked solo or collaboratively on several social media posts and blog graphics, had the opportunity to proofread the manuscript of Chen Chen’s upcoming release, and experienced the wide range of poets and authors Boa champions. Needless to say, I am grateful for the opportunities Boa and its people have provided me over the past few months. Though I will miss being immersed in art and literature at work, my education calls me back for one final year.
My final note to you as I sign off is this: poets and readers alike, never stop chasing the creation and consumption of literature, for literature is not only a mirror into other worlds, but a crucial reflection of our own.
Daisy Sheldon is an upcoming Spring 2027 graduate from the State College of New York at Geneseo. There, she’s earning a bachelor’s in English/Creative Writing, minoring in marketing, and has a micro-credential in publishing.
